If you think your vehicle was towed by Goch & Sons, the fastest way to confirm is to call (313) 382-2727 ext. 3. Our dispatch can verify whether we have your vehicle and provide information regarding its location.
You can also confirm a tow yourself through the Michigan Secretary of State’s Abandoned Vehicle Search by entering your VIN or license plate. It may take 24 hours to reflect on the site.
Vehicle Location
If your vehicle was towed by Goch & Sons, please visit our releasing facility located at:
750 S Deacon Street,
Detroit, MI 48217
Hours: Monday-Friday 9 AM – 5:30 PM,
Closed on major holidays. No after-hours releases are available. Please call ahead before your visit.
Vehicle Release Requirements
To drive the vehicle from our lot, you must provide:
- Valid driver’s license
- Current vehicle registration
- Current proof of insurance
If the vehicle is towed from our lot, you must provide:
- Vehicle title or current registration
- Government-issued photo ID
If Someone Other Than the Registered Owner Is Picking Up the Vehicle
Required Documentation:
- Notarized Authorization Letter from the Owner
- Copy of the Owner’s Identification
- If the vehicle will be driven from our facility: Valid Driver’s License, Current Vehicle Registration, and Valid Proof of Insurance
- If the vehicle will be towed from our facility: Vehicle Title or Current Vehicle Registration
- Any other documentation required by law or the impounding agency
If the registered owner does not have a valid driver’s license, they can be accompanied by two other licensed drivers. All driving, registered vehicles MUST be accompanied by a valid license driver.
Business Owners Picking Up a Company-Owned Vehicle
Required Documents:
- Articles of Incorporation or proof of ownership as listed on the LARA website
- Valid photo identification
- Current vehicle registration and valid proof of insurance if the vehicle will be driven from our facility
- Vehicle title or current registration if the vehicle will be towed from our facility
Commercial or Company-Owned Vehicles
Required Documents:
- Notarized letter on company letterhead authorizing the release of the vehicle and identifying the person or entity to whom the vehicle is being released
- Current vehicle registration and valid proof of insurance if the vehicle will be driven from our facility
- Vehicle title if the vehicle will be towed from our facility
Personal Property Retrieval Fees
Vehicles housed at Goch & Sons Towing Inc.
- The first retrieval of personal property from a vehicle is provided at no charge.
- A fee will be charged for any additional personal property retrieval visits.
Vehicles housed in Lincoln Park & Melvindale
- Goch & Sons Towing does not charge for a property release, although the city does charge a “gate fee”.
- First come to 750 S Deacon St. Detroit MI to pay the gate fee
- You will receive a receipt and instructions as to where your car is physically housed.
- We will instruct one of our team members to meet you and assist with property removal.
How Much Will It Cost to Release My Vehicle?
The total cost to release a vehicle varies depending on several factors, including:
- The type of impound (police impound, private property impound, etc.)
- Vehicle size and classification
- Storage duration
- Applicable administrative fees
- Any additional services performed
Because every impound is different, we recommend contacting our office before arriving to obtain your current balance and confirm any release requirements.

Forms of Payment
We accept cash exact change, debit card, and credit card including Visa, Mastercard, Discover. American Express is not accepted.
Please Note: All credit and debit card transactions are subject to a 3% credit card processing fee.
How to dispute:
Michigan law provides a process for vehicle owners to challenge a tow, impoundment, or related charges through the district court with jurisdiction over the tow location.
The basics:
- The required form (DC 90 – Petition Regarding Impoundment of Motor Vehicle) is available at michigan.gov/courts.
- Petitions must generally be filed within 20 days of the date on the Abandoned Vehicle Notice.
- Court filing fees and bond requirements vary by court.
- Depending on the circumstances, the court may require payment of the charges or a bond before the vehicle can be released.
- If the court determines the tow or charges were improper, it may order reimbursement of eligible fees.
